One of our donors made a video about his experience donating to our Furniture Bank

CBC Ontario Morning reports on Ottawa’s current living wage and the businesses and organizations across the city who are certified living wage employers.

As the Furniture Bank prepares with both joy and sadness for David’s departure at the end of this summer, we share this look back at his remarkable Matthew House journey.

“We are serving people who are going through the hardest thing they’ll ever go through. We’ve been able to see how much it means to people when we can love on them and give them that warm welcome.”

“These are people who have already been through so much… They’ve moved from another country, they’ve been living in shelters, they are starting from scratch.”

“I think that refugees are our most resilient teachers. They form the fabric in many ways of our society and what it means to be Canadian.”

Katto of Matthew House Ottawa said free transit would be an "extremely important" service for clients who need a ride to see a lawyer, for example.

Matthew House Ottawa was featured as one of 12 organizations in Ottawa providing a living wage for their employees, as CTV's Tyler Fleming reports that the minimum wage is set to rise in October.

“In September 2020, Matthew House added a second home, tripling their capacity from 8 beds to 24. Last year, they served 46 people, including four families and eight children. Through a partnership with Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Parish, they have plans in the works to open a third house in September 2022.”

“The folks we are serving have been totally uprooted from where they are. Any sense of normalcy we can provide, I think that’s the right thing to do.”
