Matthew House Ottawa Enhances Their Community Impact Thanks to $122,000 OTF Grant from Ontario Government

Ottawa, ON – On Friday, local MPP John Fraser met with the team at Matthew House Ottawa as they celebrated a $122,000 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) which supported the organization’s efforts to enhance their positive impact on the community.

“This OTF investment in Matthew House Ottawa has allowed them to help more refugees and newcomer families as well as those in our community who are low-income and in need.” said John Fraser, MPP for Ottawa South. “The purchase of a new truck allows Matthew House to better serve their growing clientele which equals an additional 600 individuals and families. Thank you to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for supporting this important, life-changing organization through their Capital grant stream.”

Awarded over 12 months, the OTF grant supported the purchase of a new truck to expand the organization’s services and reduce wait times. By expanding their services, Matthew House Ottawa will be able to further their mission to address furniture poverty by accepting and redistributing gently-used furniture and household items to newcomers and low-income families.

“Our trucks connect generosity to need, carrying donated furniture from neighbors across Ottawa straight into the homes of families starting over,” said Kailee Brennan, Executive Director for Matthew House Ottawa. “We are enormously grateful for this opportunity provided by Ontario Trillium Foundation, and we are delighted about the impact it will have on families we serve.”

The Furniture Bank distributes quality used furniture and household goods to families in need. In 2025, more than 1,500 families benefited from its services. The new truck will help the Furniture Bank respond more efficiently to the growing demand for donated furniture and household items. It ensures that Matthew House Ottawa can collect and deliver more furniture to individuals of all backgrounds, including newcomers, folks leaving shelters, or families rebuilding after a crisis.
