Invitation to Participate: I am invited to participate in the abovementioned research study conducted by Christina Clark-Kazak, Delphine Nakache, Azar Masoumi, and Allan Reesor-McDowell.
Purpose of the Study: The purpose of the study is to understand the supports and gaps in accessing housing and other settlement supports for refugee claimants.
Participation: My participation will consist essentially of answering questions in the following online, self-administered survey. I will answer questions about how my organization supports refugee claimants, with a view to identifying gaps in protection and ways to improve them.
Risks: My participation in this study will entail that I provide information, in my professional capacity, on the services my organization provides to refugee claimants. This may cause me to feel discomfort about potential criticism about programs and policies.
Benefits: My participation in this study will allow me to contribute to baseline information on support for refugee claimants in Canada.
Confidentiality and anonymity: I have received assurance from the researcher that the information I will share will remain strictly confidential. I understand that the contents will be used only for mapping and analyzing housing and settlement supports for refugee claimants in Canada. My confidentiality will be protected by not including my name and the name of my organization in the study.
Anonymity is not guaranteed in this study, because of the small sample size and because I will answer survey questions in my professional capacity as a service provider. The names of respondents and their organizations will not be reported in findings. However, given the small number of organizations serving refugee claimants, especially in some provinces/territories, it is possible that the identity of my organization or myself could be guessed by readers of reports.
Conservation of data: The data in this survey is being collected through a secure Microsoft Teams form. The researchers will store electronic copies of my responses on password-protected USB keys and computers. All research records shall be preserved until publication and a reasonable time thereafter, in accordance with scholarly practice and University regulations, for a minimum of five years.
Compensation: There is no compensation for my participation in this survey.
Voluntary Participation: I am under no obligation to participate and if I choose to participate, I can withdraw from the study at any time and/or refuse to answer any questions, without suffering any negative consequences. If I choose to withdraw, all data gathered until the time of withdrawal will be destroyed.
If I have any questions about the study, I may contact the researchers at their emails above.
If I have any questions regarding the ethical conduct of this study, I may contact the Protocol Officer for Ethics in Research, University of Ottawa, Tabaret Hall, 550 Cumberland Street, Room 154, Ottawa, ON K1N 6N5
