Matthew House Ottawa Awarded $122,000 OTF Capital Grant to Enhance Community Impact

Matthew House Ottawa is pleased to announce that their Furniture Bank has been awarded a $122,000 Capital Grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), allowing them to further their mission to address furniture poverty by accepting and redistributing gently-used furniture and household items to newcomers and low-income families. With these funds, the Furniture Bank will be able to purchase a new truck, expand their services, and reduce wait times.

“Our trucks connect generosity to need, carrying donated furniture from neighbors across Ottawa straight into the homes of families starting over. We are enormously grateful for this opportunity provided by Ontario Trillium Foundation, and we are delighted about the impact it will have on families we serve.” — Kailee Brennan, Executive Director, MHO

The Furniture Bank distributes quality used furniture and household goods to families in need. In 2024, more than 1,800 families benefited from its services. The new truck will help the Furniture Bank respond more efficiently to the growing demand for donated furniture and household items. It ensures that Matthew House Ottawa can collect and deliver more furniture to individuals of all backgrounds, including newcomers, folks leaving shelters, or families rebuilding after a crisis.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
