
Furniture Bank Volunteer
Warehouse Assistant - Furniture Bank is always in need of friendly individuals who are able to lift heavy furniture around the warehouse, and load or off-load furniture from trucks and other vehicles. If you have free time during weekdays between 10 am - 4 pm and are interested in making a positive impact on the lives of others, we would like to have you join our group of enthusiastic volunteers. Please note, start times vary for each day and can range from 4 - 6 hours per shift.

Direct Resident Support
Direct Support or “regular support” volunteers are those who assist in the operation of Refugee Services. Direct volunteers take on tasks that typically require regular interaction with MHO residents. Specific duties range from mentoring new volunteers to assisting residents in planning their bus routes.

FURNITURE BANK NEEDS TRUCK DRIVERS AND ASSISTANTS
If you are looking for an organization to volunteer, FURNITURE BANK NEEDS YOU NOW! Volunteer to help those in our Ottawa community whom we support.
Drivers - require a clean G licence, driver abstract, a police record check. Duties include supervising the truck crew, loading and off-loading the truck, interacting with donors and clients. Ability to lift heavy furniture is preferred but will consider applicants from retired sector.
Assistants - work with the driver loading and off-loading the truck, interacting with donors and clients. Ability to lift heavy furniture is a must.

Housing/Moving Specialist
The volunteer Housing Coordinator is responsible for working with MHO:RS residents towards the end of their stay to help them find appropriate and affordable housing. Specific duties range in nature from assisting residents in their application for the Social Housing Registry to conducting online searches with the resident for prospective housing options.

Special Events Coordinator
The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for planning one resident event each month for residents living in the house and occasionally past residents as well. The event is meant to be a fun, community building experience and can involve local cultural activities or events.

Indirect/Casual Support
Indirect Support volunteers are responsible for a variety of tasks to ensure that the household runs smoothly. Indirect volunteers take on tasks that do not typically require regular interaction with MHO residents. Are you a new volunteer or a volunteer with with limited availability? Then this is the role for you! Specific duties range from house cleaning to assisting with fundraising.

Cook
Volunteer cooks are responsible for providing a weekday evening meal for MHO:RS residents & volunteers. Groceries are provided, and each week the cook can expect to find meat, vegetables (fresh or frozen), and a starch (rice, potatoes, pasta).
Volunteer cooks can come in on a regular weekly basis, or fill in as needed.

Translator
Volunteer translators are used at MHO to communicate with residents during the intake process or on an as-needed basis. Occasionally, they will be asked to translate documents.

Photographer/Videographer
Both our Furniture Bank and our Refugee Services centre host events on a regular basis. Photos and videos help us tell our story. If you have a talent in this area, let us know!
