Through our Furniture Bank, Matthew House helps newcomers and low-income families in Ottawa make their house a home. Your donation of furniture could change lives (video).

HOW TO DONATE FURNITURE

There are two ways to donate furniture. You can schedule a pick-up or bring furniture donations to our warehouse yourself.

You will receive a gift tax receipt for the value of your donated furniture items.

We cannot accept items that are surplus to inventory, damaged, or showing excess wear and tear.

Please review our list of items we can and cannot accept before donating.

2. Bring your donation to our furniture Bank warehouse

We accept furniture donation drop offs between 11am-3pm, Monday to Friday.

The Furniture Bank is closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Day, Labour Day, and Thanksgiving.

Step 1: Register with one of our REFERRING PARTNERS

Step 2: Ask your caseworker to refer you to Furniture Bank.

We will contact you with an appointment date and time.

Step 3: come to the warehouse on your appointment date and time.

Furniture Bank is located at 340 Legget Drive, door 53, Kanata. A volunteer will greet you and answer any questions.

Step 4: Choose your gently used furniture

Take your new furniture home! If you use your own car, van or truck, there is no cost.

If you would like Furniture Bank to deliver your furniture: 

  • We will charge a delivery fee. In most cases your referral agency will pay for delivery. If you are paying, you can pay in advance of your appointment by phone or when you come to the warehouse

  • Curbside delivery is off-loaded as close to your building as the delivery truck can legally park. You are responsible for moving items into your home once off-loaded from the truck

  • Indoor delivery is taken into the entrance of your home

  • We can only deliver furniture on specific days and times, typically the day after your appointment.

FOR REFERRING PARTNERS

Matthew House Ottawa: Furniture Bank, House to Home and Helping with Furniture (HWF) work together to provide furniture to as many families as possible. Referrals for the same family to multiple organizations reduces the number of homes we can furnish. You, as a referral agency, can help us schedule more families to get furniture by referring each client to a single agency at a time. Please help us avoid duplication of services.
