Work with us!

Job Title: Fundraising associate

Position Type: Part-time, casual

Wage: $18-20/hour, dependent on experience

Location: Ottawa (flexible; though our preference is that the successful candidate will work out of our furniture bank office initially as part of the orientation to the new job)

Reports to: Executive Director

Application Deadline: Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until position is filled. Ideal start date is May 1st, 2019 (or before).

Since 2010, Matthew House Ottawa has housed hundreds of refugee claimants, and provided free, quality used furniture to about 5000 families. We have done this as a large, dedicated team of volunteers and a small handful of employees, with a lot of passion and commitment.

However, we have more demand than we can accommodate, and have not had time to focus on cultivating a regular donor base that would help us to grow our services, become more professional, and have a deeper and lasting impact in our community.

We are looking for someone that can support our executive director in carrying out this important work.

Are you someone who has passion for social causes such as homelessness and migration/refugee issues? Do you love making phone calls? Are you an excellent communicator (email, phone, mail)? Do you want to leverage your communications or fundraising experience to grow our donor base?  If so, we would like to meet you!

What you would help us with:

This role is approximately 50% telephone fundraising and 50% fundraising coordination. With the guidance and support of Matthew House Ottawa’s fundraising committee, you will help us execute our organization’s 2019 Fundraising Plan that will allow us to understand, connect with and grow our donor base. This would include the following specific tasks/projects:

1. Coordinate and implement a plan to convert furniture donors to financial supporters, including:

  • Sending a thank you and appeal by mail and/or email, to all furniture bank donations, at the time of their donation.

  • Placing tele-fundraising phone calls to each furniture donor

2. Coordinate and implement 3-channel appeals twice yearly (mail, email, phone call) to our entire donor base

3. Coordinate the development of fundraising and communications products. E.g  donor impact reports, event display(s), donor thank you cards

4. Other (as time allows):

  • Place tele-fundraising calls to other lists of supporters and lapsed donors.

  • Coordinate e-newsletter (approx. every 2 months)

  • Help develop content for social media posts

If you feel you are an excellent fit for this job, please email a cover letter and cv to arm@matthewhouseottawa.org. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
